How to choose a beauty course you will actually finish

Duration, fees and job promises all matter — but the question that predicts whether you finish is a different one entirely.

Most people choose a beauty course by looking at two numbers: how long it takes and what it costs. Both matter. Neither predicts whether you will still be in the industry two years from now.

Start from the job, not the syllabus

Write down what you want to be doing on an ordinary Tuesday in two years. Standing behind a chair cutting hair? On location at a wedding at 5am? Running a small studio from home? Each of those points at a different course, and some of them are much shorter than you think.

A three-week makeup foundation gets you to a paid booking faster than an eighteen-month diploma. That is not a shortcut — it is the right answer for someone who wants to freelance at weddings. Equally, if you want to run a salon floor, the short course will leave you stuck.

Ask what you will touch in week one

The honest test of any beauty course is how quickly your hands are on a real head of hair or a real face. Theory matters, but it exists to explain the practical.

If the answer is "we do theory for the first month", ask why.

Ask what happens after

  • Is there placement support, and what does it actually involve?
  • Can you call a trainer when you are stuck on a client in your first job?
  • Do they help with your kit, or just hand you a list?

The question that predicts finishing

Here it is: who is teaching, and are they still working in the industry?

A trainer who is still doing bridal bookings knows what clients asked for this season. A trainer who left the floor a decade ago is teaching you the market as it was. The techniques change, the products change, and the difference shows up in your first month of work.

Come and watch a batch in session before you enrol anywhere — including here. Twenty minutes on the floor tells you more than any brochure.
